From coursework to a visitor management system

A brief look at the purpose, stack and architecture of the first SupaAI showcase project.

The problem

Office reception needs a practical way to register visitors, capture their acknowledgement and let staff manage invitations. This project began as an MSIT homework assignment and was extended beyond the original requirements.

What it includes

  • Camera photo capture and digital signatures
  • Staff invitations by email
  • Returning visitor auto-fill
  • An administration configuration panel
  • Multi-tenant data isolation

Demo access is provided privately for Administrator, Staff and Visitor roles. The demo uses its own database.

Technology

The supplied project stack is Next.js, Prisma, Azure PostgreSQL, Ubuntu and PM2.

Architecture

Each application has its own hostname and process. Nginx routes requests to the appropriate application.

Design lesson

A separate process helps with deployment and restarts. Tenant data isolation still has to be enforced by the application when it reads or changes records. This overview does not claim an independent audit of that implementation.
